'heaven' and 'explorer' early adventures in analog
hi friends and neighbors.
After I left rainbow, I was looking for something to do, of course and landed in germany, of all places. I liked it here still do and everybody's got to be somplace, don't they?
The tracks on these two records are strongly influenced by euro-electronica, or whatever drawer people put this style into these days.
Basically, this is nigel jopson and me in the studio, trying things out... a lot of great cocktail recipes came out of these sessions, with and without those little paper umbrellas.
By and by we tried other things out, like me singing and writing lyrics. We all know how THAT turned out. I wrote a lot of songs, for myself and a lot of other people, and had some sucess with some of them. More than some, less than others, but once again everybody's got to do something, don't they?
The sessions that produced 'heaven', 'explorer', 'no human','TCP', and 'yellow power' were me learning-by-doing in a recording studio, and I got into the habit of playing nearly everything myself. This was a great hands-on way to learn arranging, composition, engineering, and drinking to excess. Almost nobody gets that grace period anymore now you have to be shithot-out-of-the-box; but back in the day we had some time to learn and make mistakes.
Enter peter hauke, whose studio I was practically living in. He had produced some successful german records, and a couple of huge hits. He needed understandably to see some return, and he got it. Under a swiss shell-corporation, he could deduct a whole pile o' cash for each record he 'released'. And did. So there's me, the tax write-off, still having fun, writing hundreds of little snipppets and peter, releasing them to no acclaim, with no promotion/reviews/touring, and of course no money for me. Ever. But a LOT of tax breaks for peter hauke. I wasn't even aware of 'no human' until years later, and 'explorer' consists of demos for 'yellow power', one of two records I'd planned to release, the other being 'TCP'.
Okay, I was young, dumb, fulla cum, whatever. And peter hauke was an outrageous crook. He never saw the inside of a recording studio if a musician could do it himself, and couldn't produce a fart after a bowl of chili con carne. But he was good at making money -for himself so I have to give him credit for SOME talent. (I never developed that particular talent myself.)
My name was never on these records they still aren't. (my choice). Not 'TC's yellow power' or anything like that.
But times change, and I'm releasing all of those old records on cd, for whatever they're worth. If you collect my stuff, you'll want 'em. If this cd fell into your hands and you don't have a clue about me or my music, and are interested, set it aside for awhile and listen to my vocal records first work your way backwards, so to speak cause everything that's in the vocal records is here, give or take a few guitars.
So, True Believers, that's the story on these records. As for me, I'm fine, busy, and planning a lot of new stuff. Thanks, as always, for listening.
